All about rowing

rowing

I want to talk about rowing somewhere so this'll do for now. This blog might just be purely about rowing now that I think about it so yay for having a space for my thoughts to exist somewhere!

tl;dr I love rowing. This is how I started to row.

I started rowing end of May, early June this year. I wanted to join a team sport to socialize with others during my sabbatical. I also wanted to be outdoors in nature. I normally run and bike solo so I gave rowing a try.

The first week learning to row was hard. There was one day where the coach yelled the entire time, "SARAH, YOUR OARS ARE BACKWARDS," to eventually, "SARAH, OARS!" It didn't help that my brain on water turned into mush so any input I received was superceded by the millions of other thoughts I had to not flip my boat.

By the end of class I was pretty aghast by just how much went wrong. But after class, the coach asked, "So what went right?" which was honestly a really helpful reset to realize that I was on the water and didn't flip the boat.

I went home and drank up rowing videos to figure out all the questions I had in my head.

"Why is there a right side up?" "Which side is port and starbird?"
